The Great Rann of Kutch is a seasonal salt marsh located in the Thar Desert in the Kutch District of Gujarat, India and the Sindh province of Pakistan. The Rann of Kutch is the only place in India where flamingoes come to breed. There are 13 species of lark in the Rann of Kutch. It is also famous for the Indian Wild Ass sanctuary, home of the world's last population of Indian Wild Ass. The marshes are also a resting site for migratory birds, and are home to over 200 species of bird including the threatened Lesser Florican and Houbara Bustard.

Kutch or Rann Mahotsav, a unique manifestation of varied cultural ethos of the region is known for the ethnic flavor and celebrative zest. This festival provides an exclusive opportunity to witness the creative ingenuity of the artisans and craftspeople, assorted array of folk music and performances, mixed representation of culture and communities, along with a vast diversity in ecology. How to reach The Great White Rann Of Kutch?

If you have arrived in Gujarat State, you reach Bhuj by train or by air. Hire a private taxi or a shared minibus and reach Dhordo which is around 90 kilometers (one and a half hours journey). The place has been much developed by the Government of Gujarat as a gateway to the Rann of Kutch. Dhordo lies at the border of the salt desert, and it is more convenient for everyone to stay there.

The closest railway station or airport to reach Rann of Kutch is Bhuj.

What are the permits required to visit the Great White Rann of Kutch?

For Indian nationals, an initiative has been taken to minimize the time and effort to get the permits at the Bhirandiyara checkpost to enter the Rann area.

Which is the best time to visit the Great White Rann of Kutch?

Every year the Tourism Corporation of Gujarat arranges the 'Kutch Festival' or the 'Rann festival' , and announces the exact dates. Based on this you can plan your trip to The Great Rann Of Kutch and enjoy the Rann Utsav or the Rann Festival.

The best recommendation is between January till mid February, even though people say between October and March. We had been there for one day’s trip on 1^st of March and realized that it starts getting hot. So it may be good for one day’s trip. If you want to stay for two to three days then better come between January till mid February.
